1 ovo inteiro
Amêndoa laminadas para decorar
1 ovo batido para pincelar

Preparação:

Pré-aqueça o forno a 200ºC.

Retire do forno e deixe arrefer.

In English

This Galettes also known as PITHIVIERS, is originally from the city of Pithiviers, in the center of France, it´s the tradicional dessert on Kings day , on the 6th of January, therefore called Galletes des Rois. Decorated  with a golden crown, it hides a bean and who gets the slice with the bean is the king or queen for the day!
I love this galletes, as i´m belgium and in Belgium it is also custom to eat this sweet, and who gets the bean makes a wish.
This recipe is for all you almond lovers, because it is basically puffed pastry with an almond paste (frangipane)!
Delicious... specially with a good cup of tea!

Ingredients:

2 packs puff pastry ( I bought them, but you can make your own)
80g butter ( without salt)
80g caster sugar
80g almond powder ( or process your almonds in a blitzer until dust)
1 egg
Almonds to decorate
1 beaten egg, to brush on top

Preparation:

Pre heat the oven to 200ºC. In a round tray ( pizza type) place one puff pastry sheet and make little holes using a fork.

To make the almond paste, put a sauce pan on low heat and melt the butter. Add the sugar and mix well. Then add the almond powder and mix well. Take off the heat and add the egg and beat well, like that you will get a consistancy of a paste.

With the beaten egg, brush the edges of the puff pastry and in the center pour in the almond paste and spread ir out a bit. Place the other puff pastry sheet on top, and with your thumbs or fork, press the edges, to seal it thightly.

Brush the top of the pastry with the rest of the beaten egg and then with a knife make vertical lines and then horizontal lines, to obtain a square pattern. Decorate with almonds.
Put it in the oven for 30 minutes, but the first 15min at 200ºC an the remaining 15min at 180ºC until golden.
Take out of the oven and let it cool down.

Suggestion: Double the recipe, otherwise you will have to much puff pastry and will not taste that much of the frangipane.

Bon appétit :)
